That trusty old Hotmail account of yesteryear isn’t doing your business any favours.

One of the biggest aspects of brand experience is consistency. You need to be united on all fronts. This includes your email address. No matter how far along you are with building your business, customised email at YOUR domain is not out of your reach.
In today’s tech world, your email address is often the first impression you leave with your customers. To remain united on all fronts, you have to let go of that old email account. There are plenty of solutions available.
Where To Begin
There are many services available that provide flexible email solutions at your unique website domain. They range from multi-featured robust solutions to simple and free email forwarding (more about that below).
Anyone can have a domain, even if you don’t have a website yet.
To get started, there are a few bases you need to cover.
The Domain
If you’ve never registered a domain before, I recommend Cloudflare. They price their domains wholesale and don’t try to upsell you on frivolous and unnecessary addons like other domain registrars (*cough* GoDaddy). They make their money through their big enterprise services so be sure to select the free website tier, which is more than enough for small to medium sized businesses.
The Email Provider
It’s important to go with a well-recognised email provider that aligns with your business goals and ethics. For many businesses in Europe prioritising digital sovereignty, this means seeking alternatives to Google and Microsoft. While they are still major players in this market and the most likely to be compatible with all of your tools, it’s important to consider their privacy policies and which country’s laws they are subject to.
Bad Egg Digital’s email is powered by Proton Mail, an open-source, externally audited, privacy-focused email provider based in Switzerland. The offer encrypted cloud storage, office tools, and a VPN.
DNS Settings
I may lose you here but this is an essential part of your email setup. It’s how the internet knows to route emails sent to your domain to correct service provider. You can connect most domain accounts (ie, Cloudflare) directly to your email provider so they can add the settings for you. Magic!
I believe everyone should have professional email addresses so if you’d like my help, please get in touch. I can either point you in the right direction or do the whole thing for you.
But what about everyone who uses my old email address?
Even if you’re settled in with that trusty old Hotmail, Gmail, or even your tried and email that was included with your internet service, there are some great public-facing alternative solutions.
Forwarding emails sent to your generic address to your shiny, new professional address
So you want that shiny new email account but you’re worried about that super long list of contacts that will send you messages at your trusty old email address? No problem! Much like the mail redirect feature you can get through the post when you move house, you can set up a mail forwarder in your old email account.
With a few clicks you can easily forward messages sent to your old address. If your email account is registered through your internet service provider, you may need to call their support line to help you set this up.

Receiving emails sent to your new professional address in your old generic address
Continue using your trusty old email account by creating email forwarding at your domain. This will route all email sent to [email protected] straight to your old inbox.
If you want to take this a step further, you can set up sending mail as another address. The specifics vary by email provider but a quick internet search will get you the info you need. I’m happy to help get you sorted with pro email addresses. Just send me a message.
